Our History & Mission

Electrical & Mechanical Systems, Inc. (EMSI) was founded in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1981 by Bob Herbstritt with a simple but ambitious goal: to build a trustworthy electrical contracting business rooted in hard work and integrity. What began as a small operation has grown into a second-generation, family-owned company with full-service capabilities in both HVAC and electrical systems across residential and commercial sectors.



Today, EMSI supports projects throughout northwest Pennsylvania, western New York, and northeast Ohio—combining hands-on craftsmanship with responsive project management and a strong commitment to doing the job right. Our mission remains clear: deliver clean, capable work that clients can count on again and again.

Stephen Herbstritt

President

With over 30 years of experience in the electrical and HVAC industries, Stephen leads EMSI with a focus on strategic growth and operational excellence. He holds electrical and HVAC licenses in both Pennsylvania and Ohio and actively participates in national IEC leadership groups and the Board of Directors for the Greater Erie Metro YMCA.

Cara Herbstritt

Administrative Officer

Cara oversees day-to-day operations including HR, finance, and office management. With 15+ years of professional management experience, she brings structure and vision to EMSI’s internal systems. She also serves on the IEC National Board of Directors and the IEC Pennsylvania Board, where she leads committees focused on events, membership, and industry recognition.

Founder

A master electrician since 1975, Bob founded EMSI with a vision for honest, hardworking service. Now retired from daily operations, he continues to represent the values that shaped EMSI from day one: commitment, craftsmanship, and client trust.
